YOUTH DAY
AT STEWART STATE FOREST

SATURDAY OCTOBER 20, 2001

A REPORT BY FRANK CARBONE

On Saturday, October 20, 2001, the DEC/Stewart Buffer Co-op (aka Stewart State Forest) in Orange
County celebrated their "Annual Youth Day."  On this special day the only folks who were permitted
to hunt were those who had a junior hunter within their party. Pheasants were stocked for this
special day.

NYSDEC folks from Region #3 were on hand to check-in approximately 65 junior hunters, including 3
young ladies, and their parents or legal guardians. The junior hunters even received a bag of gifts
with a Bluebird Nestbox that they can erect themselves. In addition, the folks from DEC Region #3
even had a mid-day barbeque going with hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, chips etc. Many of the juniors
were successful on their first hunt for pheasants on the 7,000+ acres hunting co-op.

One father and son team tagged 2 hen turkeys with one shot.

The guy with the live dragonfly on the side of his head is long time DEC employee Carl Lindsley.

Everyone was a youngster that day -- I'm sure all of the youngsters (and not-so youngsters) will
never forget "Youth Day at Stewart -- 2001."
