Information about the repressive gun laws in NY City.

You will see in the press many people saying that they support the 2nd Amendment but we need to have some gun control laws. Many people, like billionaire Andrew McKelvey who funded Americans for Gun Safety, think that NY City guns laws are acceptable and they do not an infringement on our 2nd Amendment rights. They don't know how repressive NY City gun laws are.

If the United States adopted NY City Gun laws
this is what America's gun laws would look like.

Giuliani has never said that one of the followiong regulation or rules and excessive. In fact, under Giuliani, the Pistol License Department tightened the rules that they had that allowed a very few people to "carry concealed." People who had full carry licenses for decades were all of a sudden refused a carry license.

BB, PELLET, PAINTBALL GUNS

No person could have in their possession any BB guns, Pellet gun, airsoft gun or paint ball gun or any type of gun, "in which the propelling force is a spring or air." A license would be available only to those people who are selling these types of guns outside the country.

RIFLES & SHOTGUNS

All rifles and shotguns would have to be registered by make, model and serial number on a renewable license that is good for 5 years. The guns you own are limited by a city wide "Assault Weapons Ban."
Initial cost of $140 for the license and $99 for fingerprints and takes about ??? months. You have to go to the Rifle Registration office to pick up your application and to turn in your application.

WANT TO OWN A HANDGUN?

  • A handgun license's initial cost is $344 for the license and $99 for fingerprints.
  • Your handgun license is renewable and cost $344 every three years.
  • All handguns must be registered by make, model, and serial number.
  • Your license only allows you to have a handgun in your home or "while traveling to or from an authorized range or shooting club in New York City."
  • Your license is not valid in the rest of the state unless you have a "hunting authorization" and are on a continuous trip going to and from a hunting area. (However someone forgot to tell the rest of the state because under NY law you still have a "Premise" license and will be arrested if you are outside of NYC.
  • You license can be revoked if you take your handgun to any other state. (This has been oveturned in the NY Courts but might be appealed. 6/2007)
  • You have to go to the Pistol License Department to Pick up your application.
  • You have to go to the Pistol License Department to turn in your application.
  • You have to go to the Pistol License Department to have an interview before your license is approved.
  • You have to go to the Pistol License Department to to pick up approved license
  • You have to go to the Pistol License Department to show them the serial numbers on your gun.
  • Your application must be typed. (This has changed.)
  • If you want to sell one of your handgun to an FFL, (gun dealer,) you must get prior approval.

Under Giuliani, NYC stopped issuing the standard "Target License" that were valid through out NY State so that if someone wanted to shoot in a contest outside of NY they were allowed to. The "Premises License," that NYC issue now is only valid in NYC. (The courts have gone along with it.). CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO
