Washington Post: Group is fighting for gun-control — but dropping use of the term

“We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from stakeholders that ‘gun control’ isn’t the best term to use because it can be polarizing,” the group’s founder, Shannon Watts, said in an interview Tuesday. “We don’t want to be polarizing – we want to be a nonpartisan organization. We’re not about overturning the Second Amendment or banning guns, but we also don’t believe that we should arm every citizen.”

So just like The Brady Bunch that used to be “Handgun Control,”  this group is still for gun control but does not want to be called that.  And just who is saying that “we should arm every citizen?”  No one wants the criminals to be armed.  The group’s problem is they have to admit that citizens have a right to be armed but they want to limit as much as possible how many people exercise that right.  Would anyone ever say that “We’re not about overturning your right to free speech or banning free speech, but we also don’t believe that everyone should have free speech.”  (Feel free to substitute any of your rights for the right to free speech.)

So that is the problem that all of these groups have.  They now have to say that we have a right to have a gun but they want to make sure that as many people as possible are not allowed to exercise that right so they have to support as many rules, regulations, limitations, and fees that they can in order to limit the number of people who do legally own guns.  (RE: See NY City.)
