I was in the T-H Record because I went to an Oath Keepers event: http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2F20130520%2FNEWS%2F305200329#comment-1369053597-302-608
otracy30 posted a comment in the T-H R:
“Tyrannical people don’t do their work themselves, they look for minions to do it for them,” and that is exactly what the Oath Keepers are doing for the NRA and the gun sales industry.
And this is my reply:
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Oath Keepers is just doing what many other groups across NY State are doing in calling for the repeal or major changes in Cuomo’s NY unSAFE act.
The New York Sheriffs Association has filed a friends of the court brief supporting the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association’s (NYRSPA) legal challenge against Governor Cuomo’s NY SAFE Act. “The brief bolsters the litigants’ arguments that the Act is unlawful on Second Amendment and other legal grounds, while offering the unique perspective of law enforcement on this issue.” http://putnamsheriff.com/news/sheriff-smith-backs-legal-challenge-state-gun-control-law
Last month the Albany Police Officers Union also came out publically stating that they believe the NY SAFE Act “violates fundamental constitutional rights” and “will not deter criminals.” They state that it places “unfair burdens on law abiding citizen gun owners” by banning certain firearms that were “heretofore possessed and used lawfully for the defense of life, liberty, and property.” http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/185401/albany-police-union-blasts-safe-act-as-foolish-unconstitutional/
Almost all upstate counties and many cities and towns have passes resolutions against the NY unSAFE act. https://www.facebook.com/NYSafeResolutions
NY State Troopers Union opposes the NY unSAFE act. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/04/nys_troopers_have_widely_share.html
Many local county Sheriff’s oppose the new law, this is one of them. Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that he has joined his fellow Sheriffs in the New York State Sheriffs’ Association in an amicus curiae brief filed in support of a lawsuit challenging the … ACT. http://putnam.lohudblogs.com/2013/05/16/putnam-county-sheriff-joins-amicus-curiae-brief-supporting-suit-against-ny-safe-act/
If the ACT is so great, why does even the The New York State Psychiatric Association object to it? http://www.nyspsych.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73:the-safe-act–guidelines-for-complying&catid=20:site-content
Why has the New York State Association of Counties passed a resolution opposing sections of the Act? http://www.nysac.org/legislative-action/NYSACBoardResolution2-Feb2013.php
Why did Cuomo threaten: NY Sheriffs Sheriff says Cuomo was clear: Don’t give opinion on SAFE Act http://polhudson.lohudblogs.com/2013/05/21/sheriff-says-cuomo-was-clear-dont-give-opinion-on-safe-act/
If the Act is so great, why have: State lawmakers seek to exempt retired cops from new gun restrictions
On Thursday, the New York State Assembly approved a bill that would allow retired police to keep assault weapons and high-capacity magazines they purchased during their time on the force. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/lawmakers-push-exempt-retired-cops-new-gun-restrictions-article-1.1353200#ixzz2UDj53BtV
Those are some of groups that are “minions” for the NRA and the gun sales industry. Your support of the new Act only shows how little you know about the law and the impact that it is having and will have. NY will not be Safer, only more unsafe. You don’t even know who Oath Keepers are.
The T-H R had to print a correction on Friday: “Oath Keepers is a nonprofit group of firefighters, police and military veterans who vow to disobey orders they believe will violate the Constitution. As such, they do not advocate solely for gun rights, as mentioned in a story Monday.”
