I forgot where I got this but these are the total NICS Background checks from Nov. of 1998 when they started. Just remember that if you are buying more than one gun, you only need one background check. Also, most private sales do not need a background check. (And they should not have one.) Sales are slowing on a month to month basis but they are still double or triple what they were just a few years ago. In the 5 months of 2013, the total NICS checks are 10,164,590 or more NICS check in the first 5 months than all of the checks done in each year from 1998 to 2006. The average decrease for each month in 2013 was 2.6% and if you figure that decrease for each month for the rest of 2013, you still end up with 19,223,289 total NICS checks for 2013 or just short of the record set in 2012 of 19,595,203. With a number like that, I guess that the shortage of guns and ammo will be with us for a while. If some of the new gun laws are struck down in the courts, I would guess that guns sales will go through the roof if that is possible.
