STORES, RANGES & GUNSMITHS
This is a list of some of the places to spend
money and shoot in the area. We are very lucky to have so many high
quality ranges, stores and gunsmiths. There are more places to shoot
but I have listed only the public ones, look under CLUBS
to find other places to shoot. Remember that you never know where
that gun is that you want and who has it at the best price. It always
pays to shop around and sometimes you end up finding out that you really
want something else. Even if a store only has a few guns, it might
have the one you want so give them a call. Guns Large means that
they have over 50 or more guns of all types. This is just a general
list and is not intended to promote one dealer over another.
Most gun dealers will be happy to talk to you about buying handguns.

Ranges:
Orange County is lucky in that we have two public commercial
ranges in this county. The ranges offer several types of classes including
the required handgun safety class. They also offers different types of
shooting competitions for all levels of skill. All of the competitions
are easy for anyone to shoot and the range is more than willing to explain the
rules and give you as much help as you need to get started. Just remember
that new shooters who quickly learn and master the fundamentals will out shoot
people who have been shooting for years who never took the time to learn the
right way. You will have to call about prices and plans that lower the
price if you shoot once a month, once a week or every day. All ranges
allow you to shoot some rifle calibers.

Guns Large
Gunsmith some |
This is a 10 position 25 yard range complete with turning and automatic
returning targets. They normally have 22 cal. plates set up to shoot
at and they have a large range of competitions for both handguns and rifles.
They are a "Dillon Precision Products Dealer" and Service Center and stock
a large range of reloading supplies for pistol, rifles and shotguns.

Reopened on July 19, 2004; (click
here for story and pictures,) this range features a 100 yard rifle/pistol
range and a 25 yard archery range that includes Bullseye and 3D targets.
The targets are computer controlled so all you have to do is put in
the distance and press a button and it goes. Press another button and
it returns. Range prices for one hour right now are $11 for handgun,
$22.50 for rifle/shotgun/Black Powder. They will be closed on Monday.
Archery is $10 for Bullseye and $8 for a 30 shot round of 3D. (Prices
subject to change without notice.) Make sure that you bring your own
ear and eye protection and if not, they have everything that you need
in stock.

bought by Wayne Davis, who also owns Davis
Sport Shop in Sloatsburg, NY)

PLEASE NOTE
Transfer of gun into or out of NY State
If you buy or sell
a gun out of state, you may have to have
your gun shipped into NY state. The only way to legally ship or
transfer your gun into the state is have it shipped from an FFL
in one state to an FFL in NY. You can use any FFL in NY state
however not all stores or FFLs want to deal with this. You must
arrange the transfer in advance and the receiving FFL must send
a copy of their FFL, (see below,) to the shipping FFL with an
ORIGINAL SIGNITURE. Most FFL's will charge a
small fee, around $25 to $30 per gun, but the fee is generally
negotiable to some degree, especially if you are shipping several
guns. All shipping charges are additional. A FAX of the FFL License
is now allowed when the license is checked using a new program
using the ATF's FFL
