ANNUAL DINNER
APRIL 5TH

Catskill, NY.

     The NYSRPA held it's annual meeting on April 5th at he Friar Tuck Spa Resort & Convention Center in Catskill, NY and about 120 people attended. Col Jeff Cooper (ret.) was the guest of honor and gave a great speech. Sen. Dale Volker was give the Legislature of the Year Award and he is trying to help us get the shooting sports returned to the Empire Games. Environmental Conservation Officer of the Year was Robert Doe from Monroe County, Region 8. The Sportsmen Education Instructor of the year was Richard DuMond of Walton, NY. The Club of the year was the Peconic River Sportsman's Club of Manorville, Long Island, NY. Gary F. Spear of Harpursville, John DiMeola from Mineola and Chris Sobers from Red Hook all were awarded various Pistol Shooting awards. The food was great as it always is and everyone enjoyed the event. Orange & Dutchess Counties were well represented

     Col. Cooper gave a great speech that everyone enjoyed. These are some excerpts:

  • The American citizen is superior to the state and is his own master and not anyone's subject. Some in Europe don't feel that way.
  • The 2nd Amendment contains a right that we hold as self-evident. If you don't believe that then you believe that power comes from the barrel of a gun. As I have spent a lifetime shooting and being somewhat good at that, that is something that I would not mind. (This got a very good laugh.)
  • Our nation is better and we deserve the position that we are in.

Col. Jeff Cooper (ret.)

Col. Jeff Cooper     A former Marine Lt. Colonel who served in WWII and Korea, history professor and an ongoing student of history, philosopher, adventurer, author, and shottist. Jeff is recognized as the father of what is commonly referred to as "The Modern Techniques of Shooting." The modern technique deals with "practical" shooting--that is the use of firearms in their intended roles as tools for personal protection and hunting rather than just instruments of recreation.
