Local Radio Stations, WGNY & WTBQ make changes

Local radio stations WGNY & WTBQ switched some on air personalities with Chris Cordani going from WTBQ to WGNY and John Moultrie going the other way from WGNY to WTBQ where he host a talk show from 9 AM to 11 AM.  John's show features local news and local people and I have been on his shows on all of the stations that he has been on.  The WTBQ Roundtable Discussion Hour is still on but it is being hosted by different people each day.  WTBQ has audio streaming so you can get the radio station on the internet even if you can not get the signal at 1110 on your AM dial.  Check the WTBQ web site for a full lineup, they have many programs that cover political issues from all sides at different times during the day.  CLICK HERE TO LINK TO WTBQ
Chris Cordani is the new AM Program/News Director at WGNY and you can expect some changes to the station lineup in the future.  They have already added the Oliver North's show in the afternoon and expect to have a talk/news morning drive time show by the end of the month.  Chris is working on having an AM side web site and the station is still trying to get a power increase approved.  I know that Chris will do well and I hope to be able to be a guest on his show from time to time as I have done in the past.

I was able to go to the "Town Hall Meeting".  (Who ever called it that should be arrested for false advertising. My idea of at "Town Hall Meeting would be Sen. H****** R***** C****** being introduced and making a speech and then accepting questions from the audience. As you would expect that did not happen.)  After Pledge of Allegiance by a group of children and introduction of about 7 local political office holders, most of them Republican, Mayor DeStefano gave a very short speech and then asked 3 people to come up to present what would have been his speech.  First was a woman who talked about the Paramount Theater's history and importance, second was a man who talked about downtown businesses and its needs and third was a town department head who talked about the 10s of millions of dollars that were needed for the Middletown infrastructure especially water and sewer.
After that was over Mayor D introduced our own, (carry a loaded gun on an airplane,) Rep. Maurice Hinchey who will now represent Middletown after Rep. Gilman was cut out. He introduced Sen. HRC who called on everyone to applaud Rep. Gilman for the work he had done even though he was not able to attend.  She then gave a short speech about how wonderful it was to be in Middletown and all of the money that she was trying to bring to Middletown.  After that was over Mayor D called on 4 people, 2 men and 2 women, to ask questions.  They represented Senior Citizens, Unions, Farmers and Business Development.  After it was over the Sen. when down to meet the children and others.
Everything was as you would expect.  Everything was planned out and nothing was left to chance.  Sen. HRC got 2 real responses, the first was when she brought up the "under God," in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The second was when she was answering the question from the Senior citizen about drug programs when she said that she "knew a little about health care", and I agree.  She does know a little about health care, a very little about health care.
I forgot to check to see if the Police on state was armed or not.  Everyone was nice and polite.   It was a typical liberal speech that only covered how the Federal Gov. should send money to those in need and not how the money was our money and we should keep it.  Only with the Federal Governments help can Middletown become better.

License fees for new season raised and DEC Automated Licensing System (DECALS) having problems

"On May 16, 2002 the legislature approved the license fee increase package. New fees will be in effect for the license year beginning October 1, 2002 and licenses reflecting the increased costs will go on sale in mid-August. "

The fee increase is was a debated issue with many people on both sides but with most of the major groups and clubs supporting it only because we know that the DEC needs the money and if the money comes from the general fund we all know that at some point the antis will want to have a say because it is "their money to."  I have posted the fees on my HUNTING page or you can go to the DEC Page for all of the information.

Also, rumors are that the DEC is having problems with the new DECALS system and might have to figure out some way to deal with it.  It was my understanding that system has to work because one of the reasons to have the system is to save money and one way they did that was to not print up the old style licenses as a back up.  The new licenses were to start going on sale on August 19, 2002.  I have called the DEC to try to get more information and I am waiting for them to get back to me.  They were suppose to have the system in place by mid July but now they are shooting for the end of August.  Keep an eye on this one.

Three long time Remington employees steel firearms from the Ilion, N.Y., plant.

Three long-time Remington employees face federal charges that include stealing firearms from a licensed manufacturer and delivering the weapons across state lines.  Shipping clerk Phillip G. Barker, 57, Dolgeville, N.Y., and return goods coordinator Francis J. Barry, 54, Herkimer, N.Y., are charged with stealing firearms from a licensed manufacturer. Gunsmith Donald C. Edmunds, 58, a licensed firearms dealer who lives in Little Falls, N.Y., is charged with delivering firearms to a person he knew lived outside of New York.  The stolen items were allegedly distributed through Edmunds' sideline business, D&L Gunsmithing, between September 2000 and September 2001, Blaise said.
The three men each had more than 30 years experience with the company, Blaise said. All admitted to police their part in the scheme, according to federal court documents.  Their positions at Remington gave Barker and Barry the opportunity to take guns returned to the factory or warehoused in the Remington inventory, according to court records. The two are suspected of passing the stolen items on to Edmunds, who allegedly shipped them to buyers. Edmunds is also accused of taking gun parts for use at his business.
Edmunds, a federal firearms licensee, distributed a large number of weapons to individuals outside New York state, records showed. Several gun deals were made by Barry at a Syracuse, N.Y., gun show, a Mohawk, N.Y., parking lot and a McDonalds restaurant located near an exit on the New York State Thruway, the document said. The trio's scam ran afoul, according to Blaise, when a Middletown, N.Y., customer had a problem with his new rifle and tried to return it to Remington. Company records indicated the gun should have still been in the factory. After discovering that a number of rifles were gone, a Remington security official made a formal complaint with police.
They stole "just about everything Remington makes," said New York State Police Investigator Tim Blaise.  Officials estimate the scheme earned the group about $50,000. All three were arrested in March and April, and federal charges were filed May 2.
Remington intends to return all the weapons to customers once the prosecution is complete said Remington spokeswoman Linda Powell.

SUPREME COURT DECLINES TO HEAR EMERSON CASE

On Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States declined without comment to hear U.S. v. Emerson.  And while the decision is bad news for the defendant, the non-ruling in the Emerson case does mean that the 5th Circuit Court’s finding that the Second Amendment protects an individual right will stand.  Furthermore, when the Bush Department of Justice (DOJ) submitted its Emerson briefs, it included statements that our Right to Keep and Bear Arms is clearly an individual right protected by the Constitution, which can also be used in legal arguments against unconstitutional gun control laws.  As NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox explained to The New York Times, NRA was not concerned with the Supreme Court’s lack of decisive action, as "our client is the Second Amendment." Cox went on to say, "The Second Amendment won" when the Bush Administration made clear it supports the correct view that the right to arms is an individual, protected right.
