10/25/2016 The fee that you pay when you get fingerprinted is now $97.

3/29/2016 You can now download a copy of the Sheriff Department's pistol application check list dated 2/13/15. SEE BELOW

3/29/2016 You can download a copy of the Sheriff Department's Co-owned Firearms form for use when cross registering handguns between family and friends dated dated 2/19/15. SEE BELOW (The term "Co-owned is incorrect. Cross registering firearms does not imply ownership.)

2/29/2016 You can now download the current version, 6/14, of the AMENDMENT form on my website and fill it in online and print it out or download the blank form from the Orange County Website.

11/2014

1. You can now download the pistol permit applications (or Pedigree Sheet) and Instructions from the Orange County Sheriff's Department website HERE. (The new date on the Pedigree sheet is 6/22/15 but they still accept the old form from the County Clerk's Office as of 9/23/15. )

2. The $10 application fee that you paid when you picked up the application in the past will now be added to the fingerprint fee that you pay when you go to get fingerprinted.

2/2013

1. The Sheriff's Office is now requiring that you make an appointment to get fingerprinted and to turn in you application. CALL 291-7932

2. The Opt Out Form to have your name removed from the pistol license list if someone request a copy of the list is now available HERE on the Orange County Clerk's Office Pistol License Department and HERE on OCShooters.com.

3/2012 Fingerprint fee now $91.50

10/2007 CHANGES: Orange County and Sullivan County have both changed the "fingerprint" fee due to a fee change by the FBI. The Fee in Sullivan County is $105.25 and in Orange County it is $94.25, ( because Orange County uses computerized fingerprinting,) made out to Orange County Commissioner of Finance.

6/2007 CHANGES: Orange County the NY Pistol License application process. They are also makeing some changes to the instructions for the NY Pistol License Application. They are doing this because the Sheriff's Department now has new equipment and has computerized the fingerprinting process and taking the required pictures. You will no longer have to get ink on your fingers or pay $10 to have your picture taken.

         Just remember that the sooner you turn in your application, the sooner you get your license.  Also in Orange County, the instructions make it sound like you have to take your safety class before you turn in your application.  Actually you do not have to show proof that you have taken the safety class until you have your meeting with the Sheriff’s Department for you interview and that takes place about  1 ½ months after you turn in your references.
