Orange County Post, 12/7/04- John Paul Vallet got permission from the Chester Board of Education to establish a scholarship in memory of his father, Rudy Vallet, who taught at Chester High School for 37 years. The scholarship will be handled by the Community Foundation of Orange County, an umbrella group that assists donors in making money available for special interests without having to go to the expense of setting up a separate non-profit agency.
The Community Foundation presently has 40 funds operating under its umbrella with nearly 3 million in endowments. While the Foundation handles the money part of the scholarship, the school will be responsible for setting the criteria and selecting the eventual recipient.

Humane Activists Network continues opposition to Ulster County funding of Ulster County Sportsmens Federation Humane Activists’ Network continues opposition to Ulster County funding of Ulster County Sportsmen’s Federation

The Humane Activists’ Network says a plan for Ulster County to provide $7,000 in the county’s 2005 budget to pay for the raising of pheasants to be hunted by private hunting clubs is for the birds.
Several opponents of the proposal plan on protesting outside the county government building in Kingston today. Many had voiced opposition to the funding during at county legislature meetings prior to budget adoption.
Kirsti Gholson said the money should be put to human services uses. “So many programs this year are being cut, family services, library funds, funds for seniors, children’s programs, that that $7,000 is desperately needed in other places where it’s a true service to the county,” she said.
The Ulster County Sportsmen’s Federation sought $25,000 for the project, but the lawmakers sliced it down to $7,000.

Deer Season Restructuring Contemplated for 2005 Deer Season Restructuring Contemplated for 2005 by DEC

The DEC is contemplating some major changes for the 2005 deer hunting season that most people will like. Among them are having seasons start on Saturday, expanding the season to First Saturday in October to the 3rd Sunday in December, adding a week of early Black Powder in the southern zone that would be limited to antlerless only and changes to DMP use and other changes. These changes should improve the opportunities for hunting and increase the take.
You can view the proposed changes and make your comments at the DEC website at:

San Fransisco to vote on banning private ownership of handguns San Fransisco to vote on banning private ownership of handguns
Newsday.com story

Five of the 11-members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to put a measure on next years November ballot that, if passed, will only allow police, military, and security guards to own handguns and it would also would prohibit the sale, manufacture and distribution of all firearms and ammunition in the city . If you own a handgun and live in SF you will have 90 to give it up because if the law passes, it will take effect on January 1st, 2006. Don't think that because handguns are not registered in CA that they don't know who you are. For many years, all sales in CA have to go through a dealer, no private sales are allowed, so CA does have a paper trail for most of the guns in SF.
Don't think that somehow the law will be ruled unconstutional. Several cities and towns have laws against having handgun and they have never been overturned by the courts. Washington D.C.'s handgun ban was challenged and was not overturned. Liberal Courts have always found a way to get around overturning gun bans by using twisted logic. NY's own court upheld NY City's so called "assault weapons ban" that included many guns used for hunting and in the Civilian Marksmanship Program by ruling that the law was not a "ban" because you could still own one, you just can not keep it in NY City.
It would be silly not to think that the ballot measure will pass and it is going to be up the the gun owners in SF to do something to prevent this measure from passing. You can bet that Brady, VPC and others from outside will be leading the fight to have the measure pass, supplied with buckets of George Soros' money to pay for everything.
Quote from an article from SFGate.com: "How many more Michael Moore films does it take to tell us that the Second Amendment is absolutely archaic, and other nations do it better than we do?" "We should absolutely go forward with it despite the constitutional challenges." said supporter Supervisor-elect Ross Mirkarimi, who himself owns two handguns because of his job as an investigator in the district attorney's office and who plans to donate or sell his own guns if the ban passes. (Now we are switching Michael Moore for George Washington, John Adams, ...)
