No two ways about it, air guns are great.
Most people learned to shoot as a kid using some type of airgun
or air rifle. Pump action, lever action and CO2 are the most
popular styles. I own many air guns and use them when I teach
my basic handgun class. Prices start off at around $20 and
go up to several thousand. You can win an Olympic Gold Medal
shooting air pistol and air rifle.
Because of the cheap price, safety, low noise
and short ranges it is easy to set up a airgun range in your house.
I leave a cardboard box filled with shredded paper setup in my
workshop. My basement is much closer than the gun range
and it is easy to find 10 or 15 minutes to practice a steady hold
or trigger control. Airguns are a great way to introduce people
to shooting. I have even had avid anti-gunners take a few
shots with my air pistol or air rifle. Plan to spend about
$50 or so for one that has an acceptable trigger, accuracy and
sturdy enough for you to keep for many years.
The same rules that apply to
regular guns apply to airguns. It still needs to fit your hand,
it can not be too heavy, you have to use the correct ammunition
and you need to follow all of the same handling safety rules.
It is just that the ammunition is a lot cheaper. Airguns
are not toys!! Children should not have unrestricted access.
Store them as you would any gun. DON'T
FORGET YOUR SAFETY GLASSES. SEE:
Kids & Guns
NOTE: Possesion of any type of BB or Pellet
gun is illegal and/or licensed in NY City and a few other cities
in NY State like Yonkers.
