From the 2004-2005 Season flyer that was left off the 2005-2006
flyer but still valid.
Please do not litter. Use only biodegradable paper tape or
toilet tissue to mark blood trails etc. and collect it after
use. Plastic ribbon lasts a long time and degrades the natural
beauty of the forest.
NOTE: For the 2004-2005 season, a new restricted zone
on the west side of South Gate Road in the Maplebrook
area has been established. The parking area opposite Buttonwood
Road is still available to hunters. However, as you walk
into the forest stay on the marked wood road and do not
load your weapon until you reach the "Hunting Area"
signs. Hunters planning to hunt in that area may call
us at (845) 351-5907 or stop at our Visitor Center between

2005 - 2006 REGULATIONS
Hunters are responsible to read,
understand, and obey these regulations. Violations may result
in revocation of park hunting privileges for one or more
years and/or legal prosecution.
1. A valid NYS Hunting License, and an officially issued
Sterling Forest® State Park Hunting Permit, signed by the
permit holder, are required to hunt in the Park.
2. Permits are valid only on the specific dates
printed on them. Read dates carefully! Only permits
issued on or before September 12, 2005 will be valid November
19- 20, 2005.
3. Hunters must carry their permit, along with
a hunting license and photo I.D. on them while hunting
or scouting in the Park. They must be produced on request.
Any unauthorized alteration will void your permit. The
permit is non-transferable.
4. One non-hunter may accompany each permit holder. The non-hunter
does not need a permit as long as they are without a weapon
and stay with a hunter with a permit.
5. The vehicle stub portion of the permit must be displayed
on the dashboard with the permit number visible. When more
than one hunter arrives in a vehicle, they all must display
their vehicle stub portion of permits in that vehicle..

15 - October 31, 2005, April 1 – 21, 2006, and April
24 –
30, 2006. Permit vehicle stub must be displayed on dashboard
and permit carried with you when scouting or hunting.
7. Only areas posted with “Hunting Area” signs
are open to hunting. Hunters shall not hunt in the Doris Duke
Wildlife Sanctuary, the Appalachian Trail corridor, any other
established restricted zones, or within 500 feet of any building.
Notify Park staff if wounded game enters restricted areas or
when game will need to be retrieved after hours. Call the Park
office at (845) 351-5907. If you do not get a person there,
call the Park Police at (845) 786-2781.

forest fire danger. Area newspapers and radio stations will
be notified and signs will be placed at major access points.
Call (845) 351- 5907 for current information.

unless specifically designated by a sign or by written permission
